In Europe
A channel with Latin American contents is launched


La Latina TV has the intention of expanding to every European country in the next five years. It has been launched in France and offers a varied menu, completely originated in Latin America. The telenovela Negra consentida, with only four weeks on the air, already has its French fan club.


 

  Guillermo Spivak, Argentinean producer that has just launched La Latina TV channel in France.  

n the past May 2nd La Latina TV, property of a group of private Latin American and European investors, whose founder, director and main shareholder is Guillermo Spivak, an Argentinean producer who has been living in France for many years, has been launched in all Europe.
One of the key men in this project is Denis Laforgue, a French executive who did a great job during the launching process of the channel TV5 of France in Latin America. He is the financing director of the channel and has had a talk with ONLY TELENOVELAS, Fiction & Formats, in order to inform that the objective of the channel is to promote Latin America in Europe. “Showing the positive sides of the continent and making Europeans discover the extraordinary cultural wealth of those countries. It is a positive, sexy, festive channel and one which represents the youth, creativity and originality typical of the Latin American spirit.”

Contents: the great attraction
It will also present programs which will give deepness to the issues dealt with but always giving special importance to the hot style which characterizes Latin American people. The aim of investors is to conquer the target of the Latin community which is already integrated in Europe but also as Laforgue confirms, “the main objective is to conquer the European public avid of new horizons and in love with the Latin way of life,” states the financing director.  
For the time being, the satellite Astra 1E, which covers all Europe, is available without codifying. The channel is also distributed by cable, satellite and ADSL operators in the entire continent. In France CanalSat (Channel 54) and Free can be watched. It will also be available on cable in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxemburg and by satellite in Spain, with the objective of covering every European country in the next five years.

 What programming is being included?
“La Latina TV is a generalist channel; it offers the best of the Latin American productions: telenovelas, series, films, documentaries, music, sports and magazines share the screen in a dynamic and balanced way.” They are interested in all kinds of programs produced in Latin America, or which have a thematic related to the continent, to show Europeans that Latin American programs have the same technical and artistic level as North American and European programs and in this way promote the circulation and distribution of those programs in Europe.

Do they consider they can open the door for French people to have a try with telenovelas?
 French people have already tried American soap-operas. That is the reason why we are convinced that proposing high quality telenovelas, made by the inventors of this genre, should convince them. Considering the mail from the audience received by the last 4 weeks we have confirmed we were right. The best test being that the telenovela Negra consentida already has a French fan club with its own Internet site.

China
The first joint venture is born
with foreign participation

Sony Pictures Television International and Hua Long Film Digital Production Co. from China Television Group are the first joint venture with foreign participation approved by the Chinese authorities. This association is called Huaso Film/Television Digital Production Company Limited and it will be known as Huaso.
The biggest part in the company belongs to the Chinese group, and the association was approved after the national government gave its conformity. In this way, Huaso has opened offices in Beijing under the leadership of the general director Dandan Zhang. Among the project to be developed in Chinese language, there are entertainment programs, situational comedies, drama series and TV movies, and they will be distributed around the whole country.
“China Film Group is the preeminent company in the PRC’s movie and TV industry, and we are honored to be partners with them in this first-of-its-kind joint venture with national reach,” says Michael Grindon, the president of Sony Pictures Television International.
