Imavision floods the markets
with telenovelas in DVD

Imavision is a company that started distributing telenovelas in TD and DVD in
French speaking Canada, where they only distribute TD, to later expand to the United States market. According to Tania Kertexes, Head of Acquisitions for Imavision, they are getting ready to launch TV Azteca’s four successful telenovelas distributed by Comarex – one every four months – Mirada de mujer, La hija del jardinero, Catalina y Sebastián and Cuando seas mía.
Besides, they have recently captured new markets – like the European French speaking regions – and in five years they plan to penetrate the United Kingdom and Germany with the DVD, a product they work with in the international market. Kertexes highlights the benefits of the telenovela and says that they are useful not only for paid channels but also for open TV: “In Canada free channels want
telenovelas because it is getting more difficult and expensive to choose series.
Telenovelas offer the same as series plus an interesting content.”
These feature DVDs have 50 episodes and can be organized in 8 to 10 hours keeping the stories and editing the extras, like the introduction of the stars, etc., and still offer the viewer a bonus that is widely accepted. “Immigration is very good in the consumption chain,” states the executive, who adds that at the beginning it is very important to have good marketing and an appropriate distribution placing the products in well promoted stores.
“The DVD is really productive because it allows immigrants to get more from our companies. That is the reason why we have been working with Latin people for some years, and it has been exciting since we got all the telenovelas we needed and we are the only buyer for Canada.”
