In this sense, Jean Oh, creator and
Director of the company, is determined
to look for and agree coproductions
between Korea,
Europe and South America, with
the objective of laying a bridge of
integration among diverse cultures. “Our
intention is that of promoting a connection
among the different communities,
particularly the Asian and Latin ones,
since I consider that both cultures have a
lot in common and feel curious about
each other,” she states.
In her opinion, there is a great potential
for Latin American stars in the Asian
market, especially in Korea, leader in the
continent as far as telenovelas are concerned.
However, she considers that in
order to achieve a successful product it is
necessary to talk to the appropriate people,
keep an open mind and write stories
that deal with an interesting topic for
both audiences.
Jean Oh says that a Korean writer can
work side by side with another Latin
American writer in a good story that is
successful in both markets. Furthermore,
she believes that a cultural interchange of
this kind would greatly benefit the parties
involved. “On the one hand, because
there are very few people who are familiar
with the Korean culture in depth and,
on the other hand, because Koreans in
general ignore that their dynamic and
expressive language is intimately connected
to a matrix similar to that of Latin
America,” states Jean Oh.
In her own words: “There are many
cultural differences and similarities, but
people do not usually see them until they
appear on television. That is why I would
like to write a telenovela that shows how
easy it is not only to get to know the cultures,
but also to learn the languages.”
This project, whose name is still
unknown, is well in the development
phase. The plot, which the author did not
want to give away either, is about the life
of four Korean university students who
grew up in South America. This means
that there are big chances that these characters
could be introduced in our region.
“The story remembers the economic
crisis in Argentina – similar to the one
that took place in Korea a few years ago
– which takes place when one of the protagonists
is studying so he has to go back
to that country to see his parents,” says
Jean. And this vision could be substituting
the loss of territory suffered by Latin
telenovelas against Korean ones during
the last few years.
