In Macedonia telenovelas
have limited reality shows

Telenovelas have caused social phenomena since the first appearance in this country of the mythical Venezuelan Kassandra, sold by RCTV International (Coral at that time). And although purchases have been reduced, there is a vast offer of Latin American telenovelas. Igor Murgovski from Sitel TV explains it in an exclusive interview with this magazine: “High-rating moments have been reduced since there is huge competition in the channels that broadcast telenovelas.” Pasión de gavilanes reached historic ratings and honored alternative businesses by selling millions of copies of its soundtrack CD. The same happened with Rubí that sold CDs and videoclips in Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia. Other hits have been Sentimientos ajenos, La madrastra and Alborada (Televisa) that broke audience records. Also with high ratings: Mi gorda bella (RCTV), which was a success for Canal 5; La Mujer de Judas, broadcasted on Romantica TV; and then La estrambótica Anastasia, with less results and thus changed to satellite channel A1 to give way to Gitanas, from Telemundo. Argentine telenovelas are in a very good position: Top Models 90-60-90, Resistiré and Ricos y famosos were the most successful in the history of Sitel TV. Lo que callamos las mujeres (TV Azteca), Los plateados and Amarte así (Telemundo) broadcasted by A1 TV, and La peregrina by TV Pink Serbian Channel. La viuda de Blanco, María Bonita, Rosalinda, Amarte otra vez and Contra viento y marea were hits in local channels. This year’s main providers are Televisa, Telefe, RCTV, Globo and Telemundo. “Prices can vary among the distributors,” admits Murgovsk, “but these products have increased the popularity of our channel.” The increase in telenovelas’ advertising has limited the arrival of reality shows in the country and productions like Will and Grace, Friends and Big Brother, which can only be found in satellite channels.
